American Whitewater is pleased to announce our June 2010 Volunteer of the Month: Steve Podratsky!
Steve has been instrumental in getting the Whitewater Park and Valve for the Quemahoning Dam.
This valve will allow for releases of water to support whitewater boating in the Stonycreek
Canyon of the Stonycreek River (PA). The Stonycreek River has five miles of almost continuous
rapids that are class III and IV, but historically became too low to boat by late spring and
through the summer. The valve will give the Laurel Highlands two exciting whitewater
rivers supported by dam releases into the summer - the Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle and the
Stonycreek. Steve is also the president of Benscreek Canoe Club and has been an American
Whitewater member for over a decade.
In recognition of his efforts Steve will be receiving an OuterCore Long-Sleeve Shirt from
Kokatat! Nice work Steve!
