NOTICE:  These flow studies are open to the paddling public capable of comfortably paddling class IV creeks. 

WEST ROSEBUD FLOW STUDY

        Paddlers wishing to participate in the flow study on Montana's West Rosebud Creek should be at the Pine Grove Picnic Area located along the creek no later than 10am on this saturday morning (July 9th).  Paddlers will have the opportunity to paddle 2 flows on saturday, a lower flow followed by a higher flow.  An additional flow may be provided on Sunday morning as well, based on water availability.  It is also likely that paddlers can enjoy this creek  

         In addition to this planned flow study, paddlers are also encouraged to take advantage of additional boating opportunities on West Rosebud during other days when the creek is flowing (likely including the days leading up to this weekend).  We request that everyone that paddles West Rosebud fill out an online flow survey, or a survey provided onsite during this weekend's study.

       The data collected during the flow study will form the basis for negotiations on recreational flows and access on West Rosebud, and we hope that paddlers will rally to provide us ample and objective data - and have fun in the process!

AUSABLE CHASM FLOW STUDY

Paddlers wishing to paddle the Class IV/V Ausable Chasm section of New York's Ausable River will be allowed to do so on four more days this year.  The dates planned for 2005 are:

 Sunday, July 10

 Sunday, July 24

 Saturday, September 24, and

  Saturday, October 22.

The first date of the study, June 25th, was very successful.  28 paddlers showed up to tackle the class IV rapids and enjoy the world class scenery of the Ausable Chasm, which boasts a canyon that is 20 feet wide with truly vertical 100+ foot walls.  We need more data so Please consider attending. 

Flows are on the rise and looking good.  Check them out at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ny/nwis/uv?04275500.  On the first sudy date paddlers experienced roughly 615 cfs and found the flow enjoyable.
