Hoosic River Release On Saturday (NY)
The annual spring release at the Schaghticoke Development of the Hoosic River Project will be this Saturday, May 5th, 2007. The release will provide a flow of roughly 1,200 cfs, from 1pm to 4pm, with a gradual ramp up several hours prior to 1pm. This release has been delayed several times due to high flows, but conditions appear prime for a release this weekend. For more information, check out the great AW river page on the Hoosic. American Whitewater played a large roll in negotiating these releases, which offer good playboating and waterfall running near downtown Albany, New York.
Note that while the reach is described as a Class V, paddlers can also just paddle a shorter Class III play run below the two big falls. See the river page for access details.
Note also that the gage listed in the river description must be converted using a calculation that can be found on the AW river page in order to determine the flows in the bypassed river reach where the releases occur.
