Thanks Next Adventure and Portland Boaters!
This past fall the Portland Whitewater Boating Community came together to celebrate exploration and adventure on the region’s rivers through a film festival sponsored by Next Adventure. Proceeds from the event that included a raffle resulted in a $1100 contribution to American Whitewater.
We greatly appreciated this show of support from our friends at Next Adventure and members of the Portland Boating Community. We have several exciting projects underway in the region and this support is critical to our ongoing work in the area that includes removal of dams on the Sandy and White Salmon Rivers, protection of rivers flowing off Mt. Hood through Wild and Scenic designation, new paddling opportunities on the North Fork Rogue, restoration of aquatic resources on the McKenzie River, representation on river management plans affecting private boaters, and support for federal funding to deal with deferred road maintenance on public lands that is negatively impacting rivers and public access. We thank all paddlers who attended for your contributions to our work and invite you to contact us if you have any questions or thoughts on what we’re up to.
We hope to see many of you later this spring when AW’s Board of Directors will be in Portland on April 28th. We will be hosting a dinner at the McMenamins Kennedy School so stay tuned for more details on this event. It will be an opportunity to get an update on our projects, celebrate our successes, and learn about future threats to our region’s rivers.
